Have you noticed how good it feels to lend a helping hand? We have... and that's
one reason why DORMtours is committed to making a difference for
students.
Our first goal is to provide DORMroom-n-board scholarships for financially
challenged college bound freshmen. We hope this program will help to ease
the transition to campus life for many registered DORMtours students. Stay
tuned for more details regarding this program.
Our sights are also set on making a difference for abused and neglected
children. As part of our effort, we actively support SOS Children's Villages
and want to spread the word about this amazing resource. SOS is a worldwide
humanitarian organization committed to protecting orphaned, abandoned,
neglected and abused children who are living a life of hopelessness and
insecurity. Founded in 1949, SOS offers an effective alternative to foster
care through more than 320 SOS Children’s Villages in more than 120
countries around the world.
In 1993, SOS Children's Village of Florida opened its arms to love, protect
and care for children in long-term foster care who had no hope of being
reunited with their birth families. It was the first SOS Village established
in the U.S. The eight-acre facility includes single-family homes, a
recreation hall, playground, nature trails, counseling center and
administration building. Each home is headed by a full-time parent dedicated
to raising five to seven children of various ages, in a permanent setting,
until they reach adulthood. The children are no longer moved from one foster
family to another. They are developing roots by learning what it means to
have a stable home and family and to belong to an accepting community. They
are home... at last!
As an incoming college freshman, you are now moving into a new phase of your
life. You may want to take a moment to think about the Universe, and your
part in it. If you’d like to learn more about SOS Children’s Village, and
